It’s a New Year – What are your traditions?
We have to talk about New Year Foods & Good Luck Traditions. Here’s hoping for happiness, prosperity, and a little good luck in 2022!
Tamales! Tamales! Tamales! - Family has gathered together over the years to make these time-consuming but amazingly wonderful little pockets of cornmeal and pork. Grinding the corn, preparing the filling, wrapping and tying the corn husk, and then steaming has been a labor of love. And the results are totally worth it! But, let’s face it, picking them up from Mexican Inns around town this year was a lot easier! Best Tex Mex!
Cleanse – Out with the bad energy and in with the new, better vibes! Clean the house from top to bottom. In some areas, the front door is left open a little before midnight to accomplish the same exchange. This second idea is a whole lot easier!
Lucky in Love – Red underwear have been flying off the shelves in stores! Wearing red underwear on New Year’s Eve has just that kind of power to make your dreams of love come true.
12 Grapes – Eating one per each clang of the midnight bell is said to bring good luck. One for luck for each month. And hope that the bell tolls slowly! That’s a lot of grapes!
If you are ever the optimist, then you’ll like this tradition from Columbia. Grab a suitcase, empty or full, doesn’t matter. Carry it around for a bit to set yourself up for some excitement and maybe even a daring adventure or two in the coming year.
