What Rich History at Mexican Inn Café!

Authentic Tex-Mex comes from the restaurant who was in business when Tex-Mex came into its own as a cuisine. Built by Tiffin Hall, it’s a rich and proud history. Still today it runs on family values, encourages, and develops staff, and provides quality, delicious food. Since 1936! Hey, join us for Happy Hour in Fort Worth.

“Star” Advertising

Who was Star? Star was the family pet back when the Mexican Inn Café opened in its original location in downtown Fort Worth. You have to wonder what gimmicks might have been used for advertising in the 30’s. Sure, there were newspapers, and word of mouth has always worked. But Tiffin Hall was nothing if not creative!

Star was not a dog or a cat or even a horse. He was a friendly burro, not out to harm anyone. But he was arrested more than once!

The burro wore a banner advertising the new restaurant. MEXICAN INN CAFÉ…MEXICAN FOOD EXCLUSIVELY…FOLLOW ME TO MEXICAN INN.

Sure enough, each time he was let loose around town, he’d find his way back to the Inn to claim his reward of a few warm tortillas.

Kingpin of Gambling?

Could rumors be true that this up-and-coming restaurant also had a gambling parlor upstairs? Well that’s the rumor. And in fact, prior to opening the Mexican Inn Café, Mr. Hall had already had success with a few gambling halls around Fort Worth.

Good Fortune

Tiffin Hall actually continued successfully running both of his business ventures, restaurants and gambling halls, into the 50’s.The food was good and he treated customers right.

On the gambling side, he became known as Fort Worth’s “Kingpin of Gambling.” Somehow, he was always able to keep his nose clean. Please see more about this colorful entrepreneur on the Mexican Inn Café website.

A New Day, Continued Growth

Now, part of Chris Carroll’s 44 restaurant group, Mexican Inn café has continued restaurant expertise and strong leadership.  And has experienced good growth in some of the communities surrounding Fort Worth.

A little history about Mr. Carroll. Chris opened his first Spring Creek Barbecue in 1980 and now has more than 30. He was a numbers guy by education. He also learned the value of real estate early on. The combination has created a very successful restaurant group to the benefit of diners from Houston to the Metroplex.
